Trusting Your Intuition: Your Soul’s GPS
By Tonia & Jennifer | Deep Roots Wellness
We’ve all felt it—that little voice, that gut feeling, that sudden knowing that something is either so right or absolutely not it. It’s called intuition, and it’s one of the most powerful tools we have… if we learn how to listen to it.
In our latest Deep Roots Wellness podcast episode, we dug deep into what intuition really is, how it speaks to us, why we often ignore it (even when we know better), and how to strengthen this powerful inner guidance system. Here's a blog-style breakdown of that episode—because this is a conversation we all need to keep having.
What Is Intuition, Really?
Intuition is that deep inner knowing that kicks in before your logical brain catches up. It might show up as a gut feeling, a quiet voice inside, or even a full-body “NOPE.”
Think of it as your soul’s GPS—subtle, powerful, and incredibly wise. While your conscious mind is busy analyzing, your subconscious is doing the heavy lifting, putting puzzle pieces together behind the scenes.
But here's the thing: many of us have been conditioned to doubt that voice. We're told to trust logic, data, and outside opinions over our own inner knowing—especially as women. We've heard “You’re overreacting,” or “You’re too sensitive,” more times than we can count. And slowly but surely, we begin to second-guess ourselves.
How to Recognize Intuition When It Speaks
Intuition shows up differently for everyone. Some common ways it communicates:
Physical sensations – chills, tension, a sinking feeling in the gut
Inner voice – a clear thought or message that feels just right
Sudden insight – like something dropped into your mind out of nowhere
Dreams or symbols – messages from your subconscious
For Jennifer, intuition shows up as a quiet but firm “nope” when something’s off. For Tonia, it’s often a sudden, undeniable feeling in her body. The key? Pay attention. Intuition doesn’t always come with a PowerPoint presentation of evidence. Sometimes it’s more like a sticky note from the universe that just says, “Trust me.”
Why Listening to Intuition Matters
When we trust our intuition, we align with our highest good. It’s there to guide us, protect us, and lead us toward our purpose. It helps us avoid unnecessary drama (yes, even second dates with bird-truther conspiracy theorists) and brings us closer to the people, opportunities, and paths meant for us.
On the flip side? Ignoring it usually comes with consequences.
The universe starts with a whisper… then a nudge… and if we still won’t listen, it brings the wake-up call. You’ve been there. We’ve all been there.
How to Strengthen Your Intuition
If you’re ready to reconnect with your inner wisdom, here are a few simple ways to start:
1. Slow down
Intuition thrives in stillness. Try meditation, mindful walks, or just five minutes of quiet. Create space to hear your inner voice.
2. Journal it out
Writing helps you hear yourself. Ask questions and let your intuition answer on the page—no overthinking allowed.
3. Get in your body
Notice how you feel in different situations. Your body will often react before your mind understands why.
4. Practice with small choices
Start by using intuition for low-stakes decisions: what to eat, which path to take, what outfit to wear. The more you trust it, the louder and clearer it becomes.
5. Release the need for validation
You don’t need a permission slip to trust yourself. Your knowing is enough.
Your Intuition Is a Superpower
At the end of the day, intuition is your birthright. It’s your soul’s language. And the more you listen to it, the more life aligns with who you really are.
If you’ve been tuning it out, consider this your loving nudge to tune back in.
You are your own best guide.
